Contemporary Architecture, Regional Winner 2019
Richard Drummond Davis Architects is thrilled to have a house selected as this year’s regional winner in the Contemporary Architecture category for Luxe magazine’s Excellence in Design Awards.
The winning entry is a sleek, contemporary house on the shores of White Rock Lake.
Richard Davis used smooth stucco, glass, Texas limestone, and a metal seam roof to create a design that is contemporary, yet with a nod to Texas Regionalism.
The result is the perfect blend of rustic and chic for this “lake house” in the city.
The design of the house capitalizes on the lakeside location. Multiple balconies, patios, and a third-floor roof deck offer views of the lake, as well as of the downtown Dallas skyline.
Robyn Mentor of Robyn Mentor Design Associates, inc. artfully created the interiors, selecting the finishes, cabinetry, fixtures, and furnishings. The casual sophistication of the interiors echoes the relaxed atmosphere of a lake retreat, combined with the glamour of the city.
Last year Richard Drummond Davis Architects was the regional winner in the Luxe Excellence in Design Awards for the firm’s entry in the Classic Architecture category.
The winning entry in 2018 was this elegant French Classical house in Highland Park.
Comparing the contemporary house on White Rock Lake with the traditional house from last year’s awards, Richard Davis is pleased that the jury recognized his firm’s ability to design fine homes in a variety of styles. As non-traditional architecture continues to grow in popularity in Dallas, RDDA has had the opportunity to demonstrate the team’s ability to create timeless designs that meet the needs and desires of today’s clients–without simply designing the ubiquitous “white box.”
The firm partnered with interior design firm, Deborah Walker + Associates, on the Classic Architecture award winner.
In collaboration with Deborah, Richard designed the elegant moldings, paneling, ceilings, stair railings, and fireplace mantels throughout the house.
The outdoor living area and pool were designed by landscape architect Harold Leidner.
Traditional or contemporary–no matter the style– Richard Drummond Davis Architects can design an award-worthy home.
