Possum Kingdom Retreat

Possum Kingdom Retreat

Nestled in the foothills of the Palo Pinto mountains west of Fort Worth is “The Great Lake of Texas”, Possum Kingdom. On a secluded cove of the lake, the client envisioned a sophisticated rustic Texas lodge with Texas limestone and metal seam roof. We gave life to their vision and created a mini village of Texas gable forms that takes advantage of the waterfront views.

The limestone walls and vaulted ceiling with salvaged timber beams add dimension to our rustic interpretation of an early Texas settler’s house.
Hand-rubbed whitewashed cabinets, a farm style sink, and tin baskets give this kitchen the provincial feel the client desired.
Traditional chinking conveys the impression of a log cabin interior. Unstained, irregular plank flooring is used throughout the second floor.
The master suite with its gabled plaster and beam ceiling is a quiet hideaway in a separate gabled form of the house massing.

An outdoor kitchen off the living room with views to the lake is visually shielded by the bar wall, yet allows for open entertaining.

A covered timber porch sits close to water’s edge, serving as an ideal spot to take in the limestone cliffs for which Possum Kingdom Lake is known.
The interior design is by the client.
