Like a pair of finely-crafted Italian leather shoes or an elegant Hermes scarf, quality materials, expert craftsmanship, and ingenuity of design raise certain items to a level of stature and recognition well above all others.
Similarly, this RDDA-designed house, constructed with an extraordinarily high caliber of materials and craftsmanship, exudes the grace and elegance of a period style of architecture brought into the 21st century.
Located in the Austin suburb of Westlake, the house takes its inspiration from the beauty of the surrounding landscape of the Texas Hill Country. Perched above Lake Austin, the area is frequently is compared to the rocky hillsides of the South of France. (See our September 2012 blog.)
The finely carved stone pediment above the entry arch, the Vermont slate roof, and the indigenous Lueders limestone walls announce that this house is unquestionably one of distinction.
Plaster walls and crown moldings accent the spacious eleven foot ceilings. Marble floors, mahogany doors and hand-rubbed antique finishes contribute to the refinement and grace of the formal rooms.
The lavish kitchen would pass the inspection of even the most discriminating French chef.
The triple arches resting on Doric columns and pilasters flanked by stacks of quoins are a classic motif supporting the loggia which overlooks the peaceful sunken pool lounging area.
The outdoor living spaces, including this elegant loggia, are as gracious and comfortable as the interior living spaces.
The beautifully landscaped grounds, designed by Brink Biechlin of Groundmasters & Luke Hogan of Evergreen Gardens, Austin, Texas, create a quiet oasis and a stunning backdrop for this lavish and well-appointed home.
And having Michael Dell for a neighbor isn’t too bad either.
