OUR HISTORY
Richard Drummond Davis Architect Inc. was established in Dallas, Texas in 1977. The firm initially focused on eclectic designs, blending classical forms with contemporary use of space. With each new project, clients requested increasing fidelity to classical architectural forms, and the firm began to gain recognition for homes inspired by period European architecture.
Since then, the firm has designed more than 400 residences in a broad range of styles and building types including: authentic English and French estates, award-winning expansion and remodel of historic buildings, and sophisticated urban town-homes. The architects, detail specialists and project managers remain focused on the same principals that started the firm more than 25 years ago: transforming clients’ ideas, aspirations, and dreams into reality.
RICHARD DAVIS
Richard Drummond Davis is President of Richard Drummond Davis, Architect Inc. Raised in Dallas, Texas, he received his training at Princeton University under renowned post-modernist architect Michael Graves. After working in New York, Mr. Davis returned to Dallas to establish his own firm and seek ways to express his own design ideas. He has been a registered architect in Texas since 1977.
Mr. Davis has owned his own firm for over forty years and has designed many luxury residences in Dallas/Fort Worth, around the state of Texas, and across the country with residences in New Jersey to California. He designed the clubhouse for Dallas National Golf Club. He has also designed an inn on St. Kitts in the Caribbean, a school to train teachers to work with pupils with learning difficulties, and several luxury multi-family residential projects. He is known for specializing in highly-detailed, eclectic and modern luxury single family residences.
His clients include leaders in business, sports, civic affairs, and professional fields from Texas and around the country. Davis believes that good communication is the key to making the design process enjoyable and rewarding for his clients. He finds that having his clients’ input from the beginning of the design phase is the most important element for a successful project. His unique approach of designing each project with the client present allows them to see and experience the design as it evolves. Davis uses his client’s input to capture the essence of the appearance and function they envision.
Painstaking refinement of proportion and detail establishes the character of a truly great building. The design process continues with drawings of the architectural details that tell the contractor and craftsmen the exact proportions, shapes, and materials to accurately create the details which define the character of the building. Davis typically stays involved until the last touch-up is completed and the last flower is planted. This consistent involvement, from initial design through the final construction maintains quality, contains costs, and preserves uncompromising fidelity to his client’s dreams. Mr. Davis heads a staff of five architects who assist in the creation and supervision of his architecture.
